In its simplest definition, members pay a medical practice/clinic directly using periodic payments for a defined set of primary care services.
A major goal of this model is to eliminate the hassles and bureaucracy associated with insurance so you can develop a close relationship with your physician and receive more personalized care.
At Mint Lone Tree, we offer wellness services and activities on top of you primary care. Your membership not only gives you personalized primary care, it also gives you the tools and resources you need to strive for optimal health and well-being.
No. Though the overall goal of both models is to offer more personalized care to patients, the implementations are different.
With direct primary care, insurance is not accepted, patients can cancel their memberships at any time, and any unused membership fees are reimbursed upon cancellation.
With concierge care, insurance is still accepted in most cases, and there is typically an annual contract with a corresponding annual retainer fee. Additionally, membership fees with concierge care are typically higher than the fees with direct primary care.
The physicians at Mint Lone Tree do not manage chronic pain and they do not prescribe chronic pain medications. They do not have or keep any pain medication at the clinic. This is because these medications are heavily regulated, need substantial monitoring, have a high rate of diversion and for most patients, long term, are detrimental to their overall health and well-being.
We do not offer same-day or one-time visits for non-members. We believe in creating long-term relationships.
We do not provide pregnancy care, DOT physicals, or determinations for medical disability.
If you have an urgent after-hours concern that you believe cannot wait for routine business hours, we will be available by text, phone, video chat, or email to assist you. We are not available on weekends for routine needs or matters that can wait until normal business hours during the week.
While we can potentially come in on weekends for urgent needs, we find that the need to do so is very rare, and that most matters can be handled via text, phone, video chat, or email.
No…not exactly. We make every effort to make a physician available on nights and weekends via text, phone, video chat, and email for our members.
We are also a very low cost clinic. We are helping to create something that is sustainable, enjoyable, and transformative. Achieving this requires a partnership with our members. As we strive for sustainability, we ask our members to utilize our services, in person or electronically, when they need us. We also ask that if matters can wait until waking hours, that they do.
Though your membership is designed to meet most of your healthcare needs, Mint Lone Tree is not an insurance plan or a provider of insurance.
We recommend that all members have and maintain insurance coverage for large curative treatments such as hospitalizations, surgeries, ER visits, cancer, etc. These events and conditions are extremely expensive and there’s no way around it. Members who need regular sub-specialty care (for example, if you have multiple sclerosis or rheumatoid arthritis) need reasonable insurance coverage for the specialists they see along with any specialty drugs they may need.
Many people who use direct primary care choose to combine a cost-sharing program to arrange some type of financial coverage in the event of a medical catastrophe. Mint Lone Tree works with Sedera, a cost-sharing program that is designed specifically to work together with direct primary care clinics. See more information here: Sedera Medical Cost Sharing
You may also consider consulting with an insurance agent who understands direct primary care. Some members may find a reasonable ‘high deductible’ plan on https://connectforhealthco.com/.
Not at this time. Under current tax law, you cannot use the funds in your Health Savings Account (HSA) to pay for direct primary care membership fees. However, you can use HSA funds to pay for incidental charges, such as those for lab tests and imaging.
HSA reform could be on the horizon. A proposed bill is currently under consideration would allow members of a direct primary care clinic like Mint Lone Tree to contribute to an HSA and use those funds to pay their membership fees. We will constantly monitor this and will keep all of our members updated.
We do not accept Medicare. However, you can still become be a member of our clinic and have access to 100% of the services we offer.
Physicians at Mint Lone Tree have opted out of Medicare. As a result, Medicare cannot be billed for any of our services.
If you have Medicare and wish to enroll in our clinic, you would sign our form stating that you will not submit a claim to Medicare for any of the services you receive at Mint Lone Tree.
If you are having a true medical emergency, CALL 911. If you are not having an emergency but feel you need prompt medical care, please call Mint Lone Tree.
No. There are no pre-existing condition exclusions and there are no increases in your membership fee based upon your prior health history.
The only exception is that physicians at Mint Lone Tree do not prescribe chronic pain medications or chronic controlled substances.
No. You will never have any copays, deductibles, or coinsurance, or be subject to hidden fees.
We have a supply of some of the most commonly prescribed generic medications in-house. So in many cases, we can have your prescription filled and ready before you leave your appointment. Prescription medications carried in-house will be available at wholesale pricing.
We are in the process of creating a list of the generic medications we will carry in-house, and we will post this list on our website as soon as possible.
For those prescription medications we do not carry in-house, we will work with you to find the lowest price. We have found that the best prices for generic prescription medications typically come through using one of the following options:
- A free prescription discount card or app, such as Clever Rx™, GoodRx™, Rx Saver™, etc.
- A prescription savings program or club, such as Sam’s™ Plus Membership, Costco™ Member Prescription Program, Kroger™ Rx Savings Club, etc. Programs like Sam’s™ Plus Membership and Costco™ Member Prescription Program can be included in your membership at Sam’s™ or Costco™. Clubs like Kroger™ Rx Savings Club charge an annual fee.
- Your own private prescription medication insurance
There are many options for finding discounts on prescription medications. We will help you find one that works for you if you need or want help.
Additionally, Sky Ridge Medical Center has a Walgreens onsite, just downstairs from our clinic. If you choose this pharmacy and you need a prescription filled or refilled during your visit to our clinic, Walgreens can bring your prescription to you before you leave.
If the onsite Walgreens is not convenient for you, our team will fill your prescription at the pharmacy of your choice. Regardless of where you fill your prescriptions, using our secure messaging app, your physician can send your prescription to your pharmacy without requiring you to come into the clinic.

Wholesale pricing on lab tests is included in your membership. Additionally, your basic annual labs are included once annually.
We provide phlebotomy services onsite in our clinic. We have chosen to partner with LabCorp, and Sky Ridge Medical Center has a LabCorp location conveniently located onsite. When using this location, your tests can be run and the results can be obtained just downstairs from our clinic.
We are in the process of creating a list of wholesale pricing for the most commonly ordered lab tests. We will post this list on our website as soon as possible. Meanwhile, please contact us if you have any questions. Note that wholesale prices will vary based on current partnerships and market pricing.
We encourage proper vaccination and immunization of our patients of all ages and are very open to discussion of questions or concerns.
We will help you with the Centers for Disease Control’s most up to date recommendations and immunization tracking on the Colorado state database. We don’t have immunizations at the clinic because we have no way to save you money on them. Pharmacies are already so good at this, and the vaccinations and immunizations are sold at cost in most cases.
If you need care outside of our clinic, our team will help coordinate a referral to the specialists or imaging center of your choice.
If you do not have a specific specialist or imaging center in mind, we are currently creating relationships with trusted specialists and imaging centers so we can make the best referrals possible.
During enrollment, you will be able to choose whether you want your membership fee withdrawn from your checking account or charged to your credit/debit card. Whichever method you choose, you will not be charged until your membership is manually confirmed by our team.
You will also be able to specify whether you want to pay on a monthly, quarterly, or annual basis.
Yes. You can discontinue your membership at any time for any reason without a penalty.
If you are paying on a quarterly or annual basis, you will receive a pro-rated refund equal to the unused portion of your payment plan starting the month after cancelling. Refunds are not available if paying on a monthly basis.
Enrollment fees will apply again if you wish to re-enroll after cancelling.
Making an appointment is easy. You can call, use our messaging app, use the scheduling tool on our website, or walk in to schedule in person. Choose whichever method is most convenient for you.
